Meeting the Need, Accepting the Challenge: Developing Quality Early Education Facilities for Connecticut (Press Release) (Children's Investment Partnership (CIP)) Show Details
This report highlights the findings of a study of Connecticut’s early education facilities conducted by the Children's Investment Partnership (CIP), a program of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). CIP studied six years of data on Connecticut’s two preschool construction programs – the Department of Education’s School Construction Grant Program and the Tax-Exempt Financing Program of the Child Care Facilities Loan Fund, administered by the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA), with the Department of Social Services (DSS). It found that by building up to an annual investment of $17 million per year, the state can erase its 15,000-space shortage in five to seven years. The report also contains a series of recommendations for how the state can further strengthen financing programs as it expands its early education system.
