The Alliance Honors Chris Donovan as "Legislator of the Year"
On Wednesday, May 26, early childhood advocates from around the state gathered to recognize Connecticut legislators who have worked in their communities and in the legislature to improve the educational, health and emotional well-being of young children. House Speaker Chris Donovan was honored as "Legislator of the Year" and 56 other legislators were honored as "Children's Champions." Four state representatives were singled out for special recognition: Catherine Abercrombie, Beth Bye, Karen Jarmoc, and Diana Urban.

Video: The Importance of Play
The Center for Early Childhood Education at Eastern Connecticut State University has produced The Importance of Play, an educational video that explains the essential role of play in children's learning. In the video, Dr. Jeffrey Trawick-Smith, the Phyllis Waite Endowed Chair of Early Childhood Education at Eastern, describes how early childhood professionals can support children's play in order to promote their development in a variety of domains.
The video is the fourth in the e-clips series of educational videos for early childhood professionals. Each e-clip features an expert describing how early childhood professionals can use the latest research to enhance children's learning and includes video footage from Eastern’s preschool classrooms. Supplementing each e-clip are suggested readings, additional on-line resources, and discussion questions to support conversations within instructional teams or in staff meetings.
