Dr. Theresa Canada

 Dr. Theresa J. Canada has served as an Associate Professor in the Education and Educational Psychology Department at Western Connecticut State University since September 1992. She served as chairperson of the department from July 2007 until September 2011. Dr. Canada received discretionary work load credit for various chairperson duties from 2011 – 2013.Responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Social Foundations, Human Development, Educational Research and Counselor Education, she was also the graduate coordinator from 1993-1994. Research interests include: cultural diversity in teacher education and counselor education programs, multicultural education, early childhood and adolescent development, equity and urban education. Her educational background includes a B.A. and Ed.D. from The University of Rochester, a M.A. and M.Ed. from Columbia University, Teachers College.Dr. Canada has presented papers and conducted webinars and workshops at national and international conferences since 1985. She is a member of several professional organizations including; American Educational Research Association, the American Counseling Association and the Connecticut Counseling Association. She has been a board member of several national and local organizations. Certifications and licenses include N, K 1-6 Teacher (NYS - permanent), School District Administrator (NYS - permanent), National Certified Counselor, Distance Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor (CT).
