Janée Woods Weber, Program Officer, Everyday Democracy

As a Program Officer at Everyday Democracy, Janée provides training and coaching to community coalitions across the nation to help them develop large-scale, diverse dialogue and problem solving on issues of public concern. Issues most often addressed include racism, education reform, poverty, crime and violence, immigration, diversity, youth concerns, growth and sprawl, police/community relations, town budgets, long-term community planning and visioning, food security, and neighborhood revitalization. This work helps to further the development of deliberative democracy and civic engagement in communities throughout the country, with a special focus toward eradicating structural racism and other systemic inequities. The technical assistance she provides to communities includes dialogue circle orientations, organizing workshops, action planning and facilitator trainings. Janée also researches and drafts discussion guides on local, regional and national issues. She is the co-author of Building Prosperity for All (2011), a discussion guide for people in rural communities and small towns who are working to move from poverty to prosperity. In 2012, Janée was a co-presenter for Where Is the Color in Occupy: Race, Class and Gender in the Occupy Movement? at ARC's Facing Race conference. In early 2013, she presented Political and Social Equity: Creating Space for Everyone for the National Campaign Conference at the Harvard University Institute of Politics.

Janée has a background in private law practice as a litigation attorney. She served as co-chair of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Women in the Law Committee and was a member of the Young Lawyers Section’s Executive Committee. Her volunteer work has included supporting women and families through her past leadership roles in Women Who Dare and with the Connecticut chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She is also a former member of the Associate Board of the Greater Hartford Arts Council. Janée attended Williams College and Pace University School of Law.
