The Ansonia Discovery project is a subcommittee of the Ansonia School Readiness Council (ASRC). The mission of the ASRC is to ensure that all children in Ansonia are ready for kindergarten by the time they enter school.

The ASRC coordinates and develops the 124 slot Ansonia School Readiness program for 3 and 4 year olds at four locations: Ansonia Middle School, Julia Day Nursery, Inc., and TEAM, Inc. Child Services.

This initiative of the State Departments of Education and Social Services allocates funding, along with funding from the Graustein Memorial Fund, to the priority school district of Ansonia to increase communication and partnership among families with children ages birth to five, early care providers, elementary schools, and the community to ensure school readiness by addressing the following objectives:

-Expanding the School Readiness Council's capacity to provide leadership on early childhood issues in Ansonia

-Creating a network for child care providers in Ansonia in order to improve the quality of care

-Offering and promoting a range of programs for parents of young children

-Enhancing the linkages between early childhood teachers and kindergarten teachers in Ansonia

-Creating a greater awareness and buy-in among the community about the importance of school readiness

The ASRC and the Ansonia Discovery Coordinator are members of the Valley-wide Early Childhood Task Force (ECTF) of the Valley Council of Health and Human Services, a cooperative venture linking more than 50 non-profit health and human service providers throughout the Valley. This ECTF subcommittee enables the Valley School Readiness Councils of Ansonia, Derby, Seymour, and Shelton to build strong connections Valley-wide that focus on the transition to kindergarten for Valley families. The following documents were created for distribution throughout Ansonia.

The Ansonia Discovery collaborative, a subcommittee of the Ansonia School Readiness Council, has created a community plan to guide our efforts.  We now have three separate workgroups that are working on Literacy, Nutrition and Physical Activity, and Safety issues.  These three areas of work will assit us in leading Ansonia to a place where all children in Ansonia, birth to age eight, are safe, healthy, and have the skills and behaviors to become lifelong learners.
