The Alliance for Bloomfield's Children (ABC) is a committed group of parents, early childhood professionals and community members who are dedicated to ensuring that all of Bloomfield’s children birth-8 are healthy, nurtured, educated and surrounded by opportunities. The Alliance was formed in order to empower parents to move the public will in the interest of Bloomfield's children.

The Alliance is now a collaborative that consists of what were once three separate councils: Bloomfield Discovery Council, Bloomfield School Readiness Council and the Laurel Family Resource Center Advisory Committee. The Discovery Council has been meeting for several years to discuss early childhood issues and developed a plan for addressing the needs of our young children. The School Readiness Council administers funds from the state. These funds are used to help families afford to send their children to preschool programs in town. The Family Resource Center (FRC) Advisory Council oversees activities at the FRC where it is housed at Laurel School.

ABC is a network that will improve outcomes for young Bloomfield children and their families. Each year, the Alliance completes an action plan in January that is used for the basis for our work throughout the year. As part of the implementation of this plan, the members off the Alliance take part in a wide array of activities aimed at improving family life in Bloomfield. In addition to assuring compliance with the requirements for School Readiness, the FRC and other existing funders of early childhood programs in Bloomfield, the Alliance seeks out additional grant funding to support initiatives for children in Bloomfield.

In May of 2011, the Alliance kicked off the community planning process. Since then, we have developed a results statement that reflects Bloomfield’s We then vetted the results statement by conducting focus groups and interviews throughout the community. We conducted over 30 focus groups. We have gathered and are in the process of analyzing data that relate to children being educated, healthy and nurtured. Headline indicators are being finalized and we are drilling deeper into supporting indicators to begin to develop a story behind our data. We will begin developing strategies in the spring of 20133.
