Manchester’s Discovery Collaborative is formally known as Manchester School Readiness Council. The council is composed of 30 individuals concerned about the education and well being of Manchester’s young children and their families. Currently, the council’s efforts are focused on the refinement and implementation of Manchester’s Early Childhood Community Plan.
The development of the plan began in early 2009 and uses Results Based Accountability (RBA) as the framework. This plan relies upon a data-driven, community decision-making process that focuses on results, community-wide strategies, inclusiveness, high-level commitment, and shared responsibility. The following statement drives the plan: “All Manchester children birth to eight develop fully and are successful in school” and all strategies and action steps are directed with that end in mind. The plan has been broken down into three strategic areas: Family Support, Education, and Health. The council is broken into three supporting work groups assigned to addressing those areas.
