CT Voices Online Resource: Connecticut's Emerging State Budget Crisis

Connecticut Voices for Children is gathering together resources on its website on "[4] Connecticut's Emerging State Budget Crisis."  The current economic crisis creates challenges for state governments trying to balance their budgets, just as it does for families throughout America. Currently, 29 states, including all six New England states and neighboring New York and New Jersey, are facing budget gaps for FY 2009 (the state fiscal year that in Connecticut runs from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009). Connecticut's Office of Policy and Management is currently anticipating revenue deterioration of $170.4 million for FY09, in addition to a projected deficit of $150 million.

Resources on the CT Voices [5] page include summaries of the impact of the Governor's recent budget rescissions, CT Voices' assessment of where Connecticut stands on state and local revenues, testimony from state officials on the budget rescissions, and recent revisions to the Office of Fiscal Analysis' Budget Book to reflect changes to the FY 2009 budget. As additional resources become available, and additional CT Voices' analyses are completed, they will be posted on this special budget page.
